The Heidelberg Historical Society Museum is now open on Sundays from 2 pm to 5 pm

Truth, Beauty & Utility Exhibition now open

This exhibition traces the Arts & Crafts Movement, from the sudden craze for Japanese-inspired decoration in the 1880s to the non-historical ‘Art Nouveau’ of 1900, to the rugged Californian bungalow of 1920—all as seen in our local area.

‘Truth, Beauty & Utility’ is now open at the Museum and can be viewed on Sundays from 2 pm to 5 pm.

Please note that for the remainder of 2021 the Research Room will not be open on Sundays due to density requirements. The Museum will be closed during December 2021 and January 2022.

Coronavirus restrictions

As per Victorian Government regulation the following are required as conditions of entry to the Museum:

August meeting via Zoom - David Sornig 10 August 8.00 p.m.

Posted on Tuesday, 10th August 2021 by Janine Rizzetti

As we are not able to hold our August meeting face-to-face, it will be conducted via Zoom. Our speaker will be David Sornig, whose book Blue Lake: Searching for Dudley Flats and the West Melbourne Swamp won the Judges’ Special Prize at the Victorian Community History Awards in 2019. It is a fascinating exploration of the former Blue Lake and wetland in West Melbourne, later became known as ‘Dudley Flats’, that now hosts quays and high rise buildings.

The meeting will start at 8.00 p.m. but the Zoom link will be activated from 7.45 p.m. so that you have time to make sure that everything is working. If you are a member, you will have received an email telling you how to log on. If we do not have your email address, or if you are a visitor who would like to attend, please email us at heidelberg.historical.society@gmail.com and we will send you the link.
