Bain Attwood, author of “William Cooper: An Aboriginal Life Story” will be speaking at the next Heidelberg Historical Society meeting on Tuesday 8th August at 8.00 p.m. at the Ivanhoe Uniting Church Community Centre, Seddon Street Ivanhoe.
Not politically active until his 70s, William Cooper became a notable activist, best recognised for his landmark 1933 petition to the King for representation of Aboriginal people in the Commonwealth Parliament. Yet despite the extraordinary political campaigns Cooper established in later life, his name has largely evaded public memory. Join us as Professor Attwood talks about William Cooper, and the differences between the 1967 constitutional referendum and the forthcoming referendum from a historical perspective
